Am I an @sshole?

Well I have posed the question now you can answer it!   Why am I asking you for your opinion …. well it starts like this.

Ages ago, when I was a true noob I bought a website that came with hosting.     I wasn’t happy with the hosting company because they were as slow as a wet week and their support sucked.    Basically, if you asked a question, you would get a one line email response telling you to work it out for yourself by looking at the manual.  When I say hosting company I am giving them way too much kudos basically it is just a reseller account.

Now I do have hosting elsewhere at Hostgator.   I love Hostgator to death.  They are really helpful and their service is always fast and professional - this rant is not about Hostgator!  Hostgator gets a rave from me anytime of the week.

To continue my rant….

Anyway, I have been slack and kept the stupid account that I hated with slow, unhelpful service and lacking any quality features because I was too lazy to change it.

With the New Year I have done the spring clean of my hard drive.  This includes selling websites I no longer want or need and restructuring my online plan.     So, off I toddle to cancel the hosting account at the company.

The hosting plan is paid by the month and as it has just been paid I’m free to cancel the account.

There is no “help” desk or no ability to “cancel subscription” you have to send an email.     So I duly send my email setting out the details of the account, domain name etc and requesting the account be cancelled.     I receive a prompt response, for a change, might have something to do with the subject line “cancel account” asking for reasons why I want to cancel the account.

Can you believe that?

Is that big brother gone crazy or what!

I duly reply that it is due to online restructuring and to process the request for cancellation.    Next email asks me “to elaborate”.  By this time I am really getting peeved.  My response - it is NOTB and process the request to cancel the account.

Resellers response - thanks for being such an arsehole!

Now I was going to reply and mention that if perhaps their customer service and professionalism had improved they might have a PR of more than 0 but it’s not worth bothering about.

Does anyone else have a hosting horror company story?

Share with me - I’m feeling like an arsehole!
