Internet Marketers are ruining the economy

It occurs to me today that Internet Marketers are taking jobs away from good people.

I have come to this conclusion because of a number of things. First of all, most Internet Marketers had a “real job” before they gave up the rat race in exchange for running their own race against rats. At my real job I had a secretary and a pile of office support staff, an IT fixer upper on call, someone to answer the phone for me and I never looked at an account only to scrawl my signature at the bottom.

Now, I am the secretary, the marketer, the IT fixer upper, the accounts gal, the receptionist, the ideas girl, the counsellor, the office manager, the company director and the girl Friday.

Not only that, in my real life I had a flashy air conditioned office, unlimited chocolate biscuits, lots of cupboard space and a view. Now, my office is in a cupboard (long story).

It occurs to me that there are a lot of people changing careers and undergoing these changes in work life. It may be for the better or it may be completely foreign.

The point is that when you are working in a “real job” you have people that not only support you in your work by providing assistance but you have an environment that is conducive to carrying out your job. When you trade that in for the dream of being your own boss and working at home you are faced with a number of challenges.

One of the main challenges of working for yourself is trying to prioritise action items against educating yourself. It is difficult in the beginning to find the right balance that means that you are actually building your business rather than thinking about building your business.

In the real world, these challenges do not generally come to our attention because we always have the accountability factor.

At home, this system requires discipline and motivation - easier to say than to do!

Over the next few weeks I’m going to talk more about how to focus on your online business and get all your work done.

Now…. where are the choccy biscuits??
